Preparing for your surgery day

Arrange to come with a responsible adult, licensed to operate a motor vehicle, who can accompany you to and from the center. That adult must stay at the center during your surgery
Please arrive promptly at Dulaney Eye Institute at your scheduled time given to you from your surgeons office.
Bath or shower the morning of surgery to minimize the chance of infection. Wash your face with antibacterial soap (example: Dial).Do not wear perfume or cologne.
Male patients should shave in normal fashion on the morning of your procedure.
Women should remove all make-up.
Please leave all valuables and jewelry at home
Remove all contact lenses.
Download our Medication Reconciliation Form. Please print and complete this form and bring it with you to your upcoming surgery at Dulaney Eye Institute.

What to Bring

Please bring these items to your appointment:

Insurance cards
Insurance forms
Photo ID
Medication Record
Wear loose casual clothes (preferably open in the front)
Bring a sweater
Low-heeled or slip on shoes
Bring ALL eye drops
Advanced Directives DNR Orders, Durable Power of Attorney (see area below with links and information)

If you or anyone accompanying you on the day of surgery, have signs of a red, painful eye, tearing, light sensitivity or discharge from the eye; please contact the surgery center at 410-583-1000 before leaving your home.

Recovery Period

After surgery, you will be moved to our Recovery Room. There, our nurses and anesthesia staff will monitor you until you are ready to be discharged. Most patients are discharged within a half-hour following surgery. A responsible adult will be able to join you in the Recovery Room. The nurses in the recovery room will review with you the instructions your surgeon has provided regarding activities, rest, and medications.

Insurance and Billing

Making arrangements: Please bring all your insurance cards and photo ID with you on the day of your surgery. In most cases we will be able to provide you with an estimate on the cost of your procedure. Our staff will verify your insurance and finalize arrangements before your procedure. We appreciate payment of your co-pay and deductible at the time of your surgery.

Charges: You will receive a separate bill from Dulaney Eye Institute (facility), your surgeon, the anesthesia provider, and in some cases, a laboratory.

Methods of Payment: Dulaney Eye Institute accepts cash, check, or MasterCard and Visa. We will submit the insurance claims for your facility fee and anesthesia services to your insurance company. If your insurance does not pay within 90 days, then you will be responsible for payment.

At Home

If you have any problems or questions regarding your post-operative instructions, please call your doctor at his/her office or leave a message with his/her answering service. PLAN TO HAVE SOMEONE AT YOUR HOME WITH YOU FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS AFTER SURGERY.
